Around four medical and eye camps are conducted every month in different parts of southern and eastern coastal areas and villages to provide free medical services to poor and vulnerable senior citizens.Doctors examine patients and conduct necessary medical tests. Patients are then provided with free medication. Along side the medical camps, eye check ups for new spectacles and cataract eye operations are also carried out by qualified doctors. operations receiveassistance at the HelpAge Sri Lanka Eye Hospital in Colombo. The operations if done privately would cost the patients Rs. 25,000/= plus expenses for drugs after surgery. |

| The Mobile Medical Unit |

The mobile medical unit which started operations on 01st of October 2006 presently concentrates on serving the vulnerable elders in the tsunami affected south and east of the country. |
It is able to access remote areas and provide medical services to senior citizens unable to access our medical and eye camps or government health services due to mobility, financial or other constraints. |
Around 100 patients per day receive health care and eye care services and are given advice on easy to make nutritional diets, personal hygiene etc. The unit is equipped with facilities to carry out ECG, blood pressure and blood sugar tests. |
Its in-house pharmacy provides free medication to patients screened by the doctor. |
